Name the price
Thursday, September 16, 2010 This is the outfit I wore to the A Detacher show on Saturday. I've always been a fan of uncovering bargains in thrift stores {the thrill of the chase gets me every time} but according to my boyfriend, I need to stop announcing the knock down prices of my clothes.
Last night over cocktails, some friends and I were talking and we drew the conclusion chiming in with the price, rather than smiling nonchalantly and politely thanking the person asking, is perhaps a uniquely Australian/ British thing. Personally, I think I suffer from some kind of tourettes which inclines me to shout "$10 Flea markets!" or "$15 Vinnies!" every time someone admires a piece of my clothing. So, one last time: leopard print dress: $7! from a charity shop!
{outfit; dress $7! Charity shop! shoes: Sportsgirl, jacket: H&M, shirt: Zara, accessories: vintage, glasses: Rayban}

I am also guilty of the tourettes-like shout out to my bargain finds.
Stranger: "I like that top."
Me: "$3 at Goodwill!!"
It is definitely bragging, yes, but as a fellow hunter I just don't know if I'm able to stop roaring over a good catch. (o:
I'm the same :)
My girlfriends don't ask where it comes from anymore they just as - how much? :) And I just can't not to oblige them :)
love the belt lovey!
stunning of course ;)
Oh! I totally do that too! I've been trying to stop though, but for YOU - what better place than your blog to share your great finds?
I love that you always look so fantastic and yet your outfits are not only designer or only the newest things from mall stores. I feel inspired to shop my closet and search for perfect vintage pieces rather than go out and buy a whole new wardrobe every few months. THANK YOU for the (budget friendly) inspiration!!
yes! i do that too. 'love your top' me: 'oh thanks! six dollars! wooo hooo!' (happy dance). it's getting out of control. you look fab, btw.
hahaha I always do that... I have a favourite clutch that I got for 50c and I just have to tell someone when they comment (by the way I am Aussie so i think you could be right).
It's funny that we don't feel the need to announce the price if it was something expensive...
haha, I always do that. It's either "you'll never believe how much it was!" or, "you'll never believe where I found it!" (which usually refers to purchases found in shameful places like supre...)
I used to do that, but my grandmother and classy aunts broke me of the habit. It was pretty bad for a while - a woman on the street who happend to like my shoes/hat/purse would suddenly find me turned into a grinning idiot spouting about what a deal/where/when. Poor things, what a reward for a nice compliment!
lovin all the layers from this look! ur belt is super cute

Pfeh. Anybody can walk into Barneys and drop thousands on a great outfit, but it takes an eye for fashion and, admittedly, and almost obsessive "love of the hunt" to create a great look out of "vintage" (what we used to call thrift) and off-the-rack sale finds.
Hey, every thrifter I know (including me!) chimes in with the place and price. That's what it's all about. My husband used to be embarrassed when I did that, but now he thrifts, too, and has no problem sharing that info.
i do that too! and so does my mother, though i always give her a hard time about it. i think its just because we're so proud of our good hunting work! ha!
btw, i have that belt-too--and so does a coworker. we all found it in a thrift store. how odd! i wonder where it's from originally that it got distributed so far and wide.

Haa! I totally do that too! "ohhh only 20$ from TJMaxx" (uhm hello I scored on a Tahari blazer that was $200 oriinially! how could I not share!) ..I decided I needed to just say 'thanks' when I get a compliment. Not sure why, but maybe it suddenly occured to me it was awkward to devulge my personal spending habits to a stranger!?
xo
love the dress...love the whole outfit! and those shoes...steal my heart.
Hilarious. I didn't realize I did that until I read this, and I can pinpoint many items that I scream "$2 Salvation Army" in a response to a compliment. On the flip side, if someone compliments something expensive I just say thanks...
p.s. I just came across your blog, I love it :)
Such a nice outfit - love it!
have a great start in the weekend.

I've only just found your blog... I love you already! I'm a british/aussie girl living in the UK at the moment... But I have to admit that I am always bragging about how little I paid for things! How can you not brag about it -DKNY bag half price thank you very much... evening bag a third of the original price... How could you not mention it? Does everyone not do this?

So funny, I was just having a conversation about that today. I honestly have to bite my tongue to keep from bragging about the bargain I scored! I can't help it.. also I think telling people the amazing deal you got shows them that you're down to earth, and that good style isn't unattainable even with a small budget!
