Food for thought

Today brought a welcome escape from work and the frenetic event planning that has consumed the past week (more on that coming soon) A relaxed morning of coffee, croissants and contemplative thoughts gave way to an afternoon of inspiration at the Portable presents Refinery 29 talk in the newly opened Edge at State Library.  Despite the jetlag, co-founder Philippe and style director Piera had us captivated with the story behind Refinery 29 and the fundamental ingredients of successful online media. Through their insight it became clear marketing has evolved past traditional channels to the point where brands themselves are now publishers and the consumer dictates trends, not the brand.
Staying ahead of the pack means brands dependent on the stiff notion of hierarchical media must embrace the progressive fashion consumer and open a two way conversation, be  the response negative or not.
That 'risk is more important than experience' is a resounding phrase from today and led me to think about the progression of online blogs. If the future lies in customer engagement through conversation, how can blogs evolve to accommodate this further than the standard commenting facility? Blog your thoughts and I'll link back to your blog in my next post.

I think I saw you yesterday at the Refinery 29 event :) I've written my response to it on my blog. I completely agreed with everything they said in terms of brands becoming publishers and that advertising is no longer sufficient.

Who knows what lies ahead? Maybe all bloggers will be connected via tele-conferencing -- does that make any sort of sense?
Love your outfit!
