Cropped Chop
Wednesday, November 3, 2010 I inherited my love of vintage from my mother. Years ago, (the mid nineties when cropped tops were in- cringe) I completely desecrated one of her fabulous Liberty print scarves. I chopped it in half to create a backless halter neck top and now all that remains of the once beautiful silk scarf is one sad little sliver bearing the Liberty name. After this I think my poor mother did well to hide other vintage treasures from the fate of my dressmaking scissors. That was until recently when she, assuming I was past the stage of cropped tops, let me look through her collection of vintage pieces. There amongst Biba scarves and the remnants of Liberty, was this amazing silk skirt which she had made from a 1950s housecoat.
In other news, this week Kate Moss and I have something in common- we're both sporting a home-cut fringe. Whilst she arrived at the launch of her final Topshop collection looking glossy and gorgeous after 'getting bored one night and cutting it with kitchen scissors', my attempt didn't work quite as planned (see above)- hair appointment has been booked.

I think we've all had a 'I'll cut my fringe myself' moment. I've always had a fringe of some sort until recently, and have gone back to my hairdresser with my tail between my legs quite a few times! In fact...my colleague did it just the other week.
Love your outfit as always. NHG x
LOVE this! :D

HaHaHa! I cut my fringe myself as well.. I got tired of paying for it all the time. I think if the hairdresser fixes yours you'll be all set to do it on your own in the future! Is it really still that hot in NYC??? I'm jealous! And still... in love with that clutch!

so sweet! you expression in that first shot is priceless! lovely!
I think it looks cute :)
Still loving your style; I think the fringe looks cute, but what do I know - my mother used to cut my hair when I was a child, and I once had one side much shorter than the other
It sounds like your mother has quite the enviable vintage collection. Love this look and how you incorporated the denim shirt. The bangs are adorable!
Found your blog through ellie likes and love it. Blogs about people showing us what they wear are my favorite ones but I only have a few I really like.
I really like your fringe I have to say.

your post made me smile. :) bangs are tricky. so tricky. but it's so nice to have them, especially when they're just newly trimmed. your home-cut fringe doesn't look that bad! :)
Looks great! :)
