Blue steel

Curled up on the sofa today, wrapped in layers against the autumnal chill, {and with one huge post house warming party hangover} , I fell upon fashion blog Qqueenofhearts. Her style, absolutely rockin' hair and most of all, her writing appeal to me.
Recently she wrote a post concerning the focus of fashion blogs, and the reasons behind starting hers- namely to explore writing with a view on fashion, and not for fame and fortune. It got me thinking about my blog; because after months of writing,  sometimes I feel like I'm still searching for direction.
Documenting my outfits and thrift finds is essentially the crux of this blog {thanks my patient boyfriend Paul- who also does a mean impression of my blue steel- see below} and having an archive of ideas proves a total winner for a day when outfit inspiration is dire.
However, it's just a bit self indulgent, sometimes I feel like a burke, like when I'm imitating a model against a blue wall etc etc and then explaining the whole concept to people, when I'm not even quite sure myself, is always interesting.
Pontification aside, I thoroughly enjoy the process. Sorting through hundreds of photos, many where I have my eyes closed, and then writing. The re-reading and deleting, agonizing over grammar and commas and the over use of parentheses and whether agonizing should really be spelled* agonising.  And after all that, I have my own small corner of inspiration, that hopefully inspires you in some way too, and if it does, then that's what counts. Thanks for reading!
* Thanks Michelle, I'm not talking about flour here am I!

Hi Lucy,
I've been following for a little while now and absolutely love it! That's for your fashion inspiration.
Also... I love your pairs of nude-colored heels. Are they comfortable? I really need a pair of comfy heels. When I say comfy, I mean walk around all day in them type of comfy. :)
Thanks!

Hi Lucy:
I really enjoy your blog. Your colour combos are fresh and inspiring and flattering to fair-haired nordic types. They are a welcome change from the predominance of black seen elsewhere.

I hope that you are adjusting well to life in NYC. It must be a huge change for you.
Best,
Louise

Lucy, I spent my Sunday reading all you previous posts not once but twice... and I kept coming back throughout the day to look at your beautiful images and clever, extremely well written posts. I have been reading more blogs than I care to admit but without a shadow of a doubt you are my absolute 10000000% favorite and you are inspiring me in so many ways. It's funny how you dont feel like you have a direction because from this side of the monitor it all looks so well put together! I adore your style and that you not only write about where you bought your clothes... You are a HUMUNGUS inspiration to me and I'll be dedicating a post to you on my blog today! :) OK... yes I admit... I LOVE YOU!!!! :D HaHa.... before I start to sound totatlly insane with an unappropriately long and loveful comment I wish you a wonderful new life in New York! (I admit I'm a little jealous)

Your new biggest fan! :D

And agonis/zing whether ''spelt'' should be spelled ''spelled'' ;-) I'm a Canadian in London, so while the s/z thing is interchangeable for me, there are some words I just can't modify in my mind!

I LOVE that belt. I don't remember if I thanked you for stopping by my blog, so here's a BIG THANK YOU! xx

Are you English Lucy? You have an Aussie sensibility - yes, that is a compliment! hahaha

Ok lovely, keep rockin' NYC girl!

What a great blog! I love your style, it inspires me often to wear things in my closet that I might not have worn before (put them together in a new way). I know you're inspiring a lot of people out there... what better direction/ motivation is that? Thanks for sharing!!

Lucy I love your blog! I stumbled across it and I check it everyday for new posts. I love your insight into fashion and look forward to hearing more as you adjust to life in NYC. I also enjoy your writing style too so please don't worry so much about the grammar and proper punctuation. I also admire all your great fashion finds and how you mix those finds with luxe pieces.

Blue on blue plus nude - love it! I love your necklace! I need something similar as I've understood I need more statement necklaces :)
I think all bloggers think once in a while why they do it? Why they started and what's next? I know I do it almost every other week :) English isn't my 1st language so imagine my headaches and frustration over grammar etc! :)
I love your blog! You're one of my inspirations! Keep it going!

Lucy,

Thank you so much for leaving a comment on my blog because I've finally discovered yours! I quickly glanced through and instantly loved everything and can't wait to find some time to really sit down and read through your blog.

I'm glad and still shocked that people really liked my latest blog post. It was an issue I had for a while that just poured out of me one night. So thank you for leaving that wonderful comment on my blog and making me smile!

I laughed out loud at your statement about agonizing over spelling and grammar ... it's a constant dark cloud with me as well. I probably go back and edit my posts at least 10 times after its been published. It's just down-right ridiculous.

Anyway, thanks again! I'm sure I'll be stopping by several times soon.

Love the color combo here. Just want to say I am right there with you. I feel self indulgent and often find it difficult to continue out of guilt, but the creative process that is involved keeps me going, and surprisingly challenges me as the artist and writer I claim to be.

Hello, I just discovered your blog and love it!

I have a problem with direction as well. Though I love the randomness of blogs, you never know what you are going to get.

I find it funny to know how you feel about your blog and your insecurities because to me your blog has a very clear, lovely style and direction. Your photos are gorgeous and you are really inspirational. I'm a newbie blogger and feel very much like I'm floating about lost, hoping to find my own niche soon.
Btw, this is one of my favourite outfits of yours, I love the brights and your knotted belt.

Hi Lucy, I absolutely love your blog and have been following you since a colleague introduced me to it months ago.

Here's a little example of your blog's influence on my personal style...I recently went to purchase a Mulberry Bayswater in camel but when I went to the store they only had the (more expensive) Oak printed version. Although I thought it looked a bit too 'polished' in store, because of your blog I knew that it would end up looking fabulous once it aged and was exactly the look I wanted. And of course I purchased it and absolutley love it!

Don't stress too much about your writing - I think it's perfect anyway but have to admit beautiful imagery is the reason I choose to read certain blogs over others.

During the recent LFW I noticed that most of the main British bloggers were all invited to attend the shows and I felt that their content suffered because of it. It may sounds strange, but I felt that their postings all blended into each other and the rants I saw on twitter over tickets/seating etc where at times outrageous.

I much prefer a blog with a real girl with real style rather than a blog that is just trying to mimic vogue.com. Keep up the good work!
