FRUIT LOOP

I'm a sucker for any print and this kind {grapes no less} is usually reserved for hideous paintings lurking unsought in charity shops. However I'm a bit enamored with them, print and style, and they match these long sunny days. Even if I do look a bit like a fruit bowl.

à la mode

I've got a bit of a lady-style crush on Anouk Colantoni, market editor at Grazia Magazine. To me, her look is perfection built from carefully edited pieces, individual and expressive without trying too hard or being too contrived. My boyfriend thinks she looks crazy, too much going on. Style is wonderfully subjective.

I sense she might be one of those girls whose innate fashion sense appeals to our inner Carrie. The girl we want to be when we look in the mirror wondering whether we can pull off the silk dress with a casual boyfriend jumper thrown on and appear effortless and chic, or whether we will indeed, look as if too keep warm, we just put our boyfriends old jumper over our silk dress.

FABRIC INSPIRATION

I've learned recently that in times of sadness, you have to focus on the small things which bring happiness and light relief, even if in doing so feels a little apathetic. For my mum and I, relief comes in the form of hours spent trawling fabrics shops, clothes shops and activities that don't generally require too much thought investment.

Yesterday we went on a buying trip in search of some fabulous silk fabric to transform into summer kaftans {the amazing weather and the latest Sex and the City film has us believing this is all we shall need for the coming months}

In the past three weeks, I've found comfort deep in the pages of Vogue, beautiful editorial images have been honey for the soul. I was thinking earlier how easily fashion is dismissed as frippery, and fashion blogs can appear self centered, egocentric even. Silly as it may sound, this blog {I wanted to delete it at first} has not only been cathartic to write, but given me a reason to care about what I look like every day.

It's also given my lovely mum a crash course in DSLR photography. And for someone who used a film camera up until two years ago and for whom texting still eludes, she has quite the eye for a photograph.

WISE OLD SAYINGS

As they say, one man's junk is another man's treasure and this particular piece of junk is a favorite treasure to me.

I'm currently living at my parents where I've been unearthing a few decades worth of clothes I've been unable to part with {some I definitely should have parted with, like the velour tracksuit trousers}  In amongst the debatable items, there's a few gems, including this Prada reminiscent print skirt.

In the true spirit of most my clothes, this beauty was another charity shop number from a little town in Norfolk. Sometimes the best thrift shopping can be found in the most unlikely back water towns, in out of the way places.

MIX UP

I'm a little late off the mark with this amazing mix-print Oyster Magazine editorial styled by Cat Wennekamp. I'm rather a fan of mixed print { see here} and these images are inspiring a potential Ascot outfit I'm currently scouting for. The full shoot also features a rather dashing pair of animal print nipple tassels, but I might give them a miss in favor of some less revealing mix n match.

FROM ENGLAND WITH LOVE

With my usual photographer elsewhere engaged {10276 miles, to be precise} I coerced my unfortunate sister into taking some photos, the first since I've been home in England. Being more associated with plants and horticulture than the superficial world of outfit blogs, I think she found the experience rather amusing.
Slowly, life is beginning to resemble something like normality. My flights to New York are rebooked and my internship company has been very accommodating, allowing me to place everything on hold.

I found these trousers in Zara. I have enough high waist tapered trousers to sink a battle ship, but I think I'm still hunting for the perfect pair.

GLOSSY MAGAZINE

I'm loving that Australian fashion designers are getting some credible recognition here in the UK. This week's Telegraph Magazine {note: British journalism, I love you, sorry Australia, you just don't cut it in that department) mentioned no less than five Australian designers. I recently reviewed some of the shows at Australia Fashion week for London based Glossy Magazine and the article is above.

FOR ADAM

My little brother passed away last week.

I don't posses the ability to accurately verbalize the grief or the hollow his passing has left.

Adam was intensely creative, gentle and empathic. He studied graphics at Chelsea college London and we often talked about working together on projects. We planned to make a book of New York photography. Both of us were to take pictures and he, with his talent for traditional book binding techniques, was to bring the pages to life.

His work and photographs bring some comfort to me, I am truly amazed by my little brother and everything he achieved.
