VINTAGE BLUSH

{Blushing; at Arnsdorf, RAFW}

I've hardly had time to post lately; my life is packed in boxes {read: I have no decent outfits to speak of; I've been rocking some truly strange combinations of late} and soon I'm leaving Australia for England's sunny shores, before heading to big ol' NYC. I have a quick stop in Singapore on the way and I want to hunt out some good vintage shopping {or indeed, any kind of shopping} ideas?

The Conversation Piece

{pre-Arnsdorf}

Call this strange (hmm, slightly stalkerish even) but some of my favourite photographs from Australian Fashion Week are of people in coversation, not even noticing me there with the camera. I love the moment when people are at their most animated and natural.

Cold as it gets...

After a long sweltering Australian summer I forget how chilly it can get come winter. In my time away from England I've obviously gone soft; the coolest it gets here is about 7 degrees C (positively balmy by English standards!) but when all you have is shirt dresses and light layers it feels pretty cold. Thankfully I'm chasing the endless summer and New York will be as hot and stuffy as here was three months ago- only two weeks to go!

Clogging

These shoes are the closest I will get to a clog. And they aren’t even that cloggy, save the sole and heel which are made from nice chunky beech wood. I understand the beauty of the Miu Miu clog, I marvelled at the Chanel show and I admired Karl Lagerfeld’s elegant take on a shoe originally designed to prevent 16th century prostitutes tarnishing their dainty toes. They might look hot on Alexa and emblematic on Dutch milkmaids, but I think I might give this one a miss.

Thrifted...

These $12 camel coloured trousers unearthed in a thrift shop have officially become my favourite find ever. I had doubts about fashion week because, as anyone who reads this blog will know, there's a certain lack of exquisite designer pieces in my wardrobe. Doubts aside, what struck me was the most stylish people I saw, the people who clearly had the confidence to outwardly convey a sense of themselves, weren’t dressed in the most expensive pieces, nor head to toe in season trends. (With the exception of a few beautifully dressed fashion editors) It comes as a relief to realise sometimes money has nothing to do with style, which in turn is rather good news for the credit card.

Day five...

A lovely lady from the six wolves blog shot this on day five (I didn't catch her name) I'm knackered and my eyes are streaming from tiredness but goddamn, those glasses cover up the bags well!

Those shoes...

Just because I don't post enough Dries already, here's some more. Taken just before the Arnsdorf show, I'm not sure whether she is their PR, but this girl just had one of those outfits on that completely worked, simple.

Light speed

So far fashion week has flown by in a very fashionable blur. It's currently 6am and I'm trying to snatch some time before the day begins. I've got so much to post, but in the mean time here's a shot of Louise Van De Vorst, in an amazing Where-the-Wild-Things-Are fur coat she made herself, backstage at the Gail Sorronda show last night.

And we're off, finally!

With the small matter of bumping in a major fashion festival out of the way, my bags are packed and I'm off to Sydney for Rosemount Australia Fashion Week, where I will be reporting on the shows for London based magazine, Glossy. It hasn't been hard keeping up with the shows I've missed, what with the live streaming, twitter, blogs and designers sending show photos, but it doesn't feel quite the same as being there. As well as covering the shows for Glossy I'll be taking street style snaps, so if you see me, smile!

A little Dries...

I may have mentioned (just a few times) I am a little obsessed with Dries Van Noten. When a friend brought the spring summer lookbook round the other night we poured through pages of intricate batik and Ikat fabrics and decided packing for fashion week would be much easier if my wardrobe contained a little Dries. Sadly though, the wallet does not permit and I am resigned to hunting through thrift stores to find clever impersonations.
